Warunk Koffie by Wood & Steel, Shah Alam: Uncle Fie's Art Gallery Café

The moment we walked into Warunk Koffie by Wood & Steel in Kampung Kubu Gajah, Seksyen U17, our eyes went straight to the walls. Almost every painting hanging here was made by the owner himself, Azrif Abu Nur, better known as Uncle Fie. The result is a café that feels half dining space, half gallery.

According to Uncle Fie, the brand has been around for about 15 years. It was first known for its vintage style and wood-and-steel furniture, and even operated in Bandar Pinggiran Subang, Seksyen U5. Now the concept has shifted to a mix of industrial and tropical, and the menu is no longer just about coffee, but also includes local and Western dishes.

Of the dishes we tried, the nasi goreng kambing (mutton fried rice) left the biggest impression: smoky aroma, tender meat and no gamey smell at all. The chicken chop sweet sour comes in a big portion, while the grilled chicken chop with black pepper sauce is juicy. For creamy pasta lovers, the spicy buttercream pasta is worth a try, and the chili cheese fries are great for sharing at the table.

For drinks, there's a refreshing mixed berry soda, a smooth Spanish latte that isn't too bitter, plus iced passion fruit tea and iced longan. Prices average around RM20 to RM40 per person.

The café also takes bookings for birthday parties and small events. It's closed on Mondays, and opening hours vary by day, so check before coming, especially on Fridays when it only opens in the afternoon.
