Tepung Pelita Adik B'dik, Ampang: 73,000 Pieces a Day in Ramadan
Started during the MCO, this Ampang family business now turns out tens of thousands of tepung pelita a day in Ramadan, using the owner's late mother-in-law's recipe without a single change.
Tepung pelita (a two-layer pandan and coconut milk custard set in a banana-leaf cup) is one of the most sought-after treats for breaking fast, and Tepung Pelita Adik B'dik Ampang is one of the best-known names. Co-owner Abdul Gani bin Samsudin told us this is their sixth year operating at scale. Their sales target is around 1,000 trays, or roughly 73,000 pieces a day.
The idea came during the MCO. Their original business was transport, and when that ground to a halt they turned to food. From two or three trays at one spot, they grew to two locations and now around ten branches. The name 'Adik B'dik' (siblings) comes from his wife's family, siblings who also make tepung pelita under their own brands.
The recipe comes from his late mother-in-law and is followed to the letter, for fear the flavour would drift. At its core tepung pelita is pandan and coconut milk, and according to Abdul Gani, what sets makers apart is the freshness of the coconut milk and whether the pandan is blended fresh or comes from flavouring. They have made pandan durian, pandan cempedak and pandan yam versions, but not during Ramadan when time is tight.
The 2026 Ramadan season is over. Stall and branch locations change from season to season, so check their social media for the latest spots.
