Team Khairul Western, Seksyen 24: RM12.90 Refill Buffet and Western by Night

For RM12.90, you can top up your rice, dishes and drinks until you're full. That's the deal that brought us to Team Khairul Western on Jalan Timun 24/C, Seksyen 24, Shah Alam. Despite the western name, this shop actually runs two concepts in a day.

During the day, the shop is filled with trays of mixed dishes and ulam (fresh local herbs) for the buffet session. On the day we came, the options included masak lemak, kari kampung, chicken, soup, ikan patin and ikan pekasam. The dish customers look for most is the kupang masak lemak (mussels in turmeric coconut gravy). The menu changes daily, so the dishes you find may be different every time you come.

The RM12.90 covers rice, dishes and a drink, and all three can be refilled. There's a good range of drinks too, perfect for office workers and students around Seksyen 24 who want a filling lunch without counting every ringgit. The ulam on offer adds even more kampung flavour to every plate.

Once the buffet session ends, the shop changes face. From the evening, the western menu takes over with chicken chop, nasi goreng chicken chop and a variety of fruit juices. It's an easy pick for a relaxed dinner with friends, especially since the shop stays open till late.

The shop is open daily except Wednesday. The buffet session runs from 10am to 3pm, while the western session runs from 4pm to 12 midnight.
