RNZ Steamboat & Grill, Kajang: Over 50 Dishes for RM38

For Kajang and Bangi folks, RNZ Steamboat & Grill on Jalan Sungai Merab has long been known as one of the more affordable steamboat buffets in the area. The restaurant is Muslim-owned, spacious and comfortable, great for a family meal or with office mates.

There really is a lot to choose from, more than 50 dishes in total. There's marinated chicken, lamb and beef, seafood, balls, vegetables and fried items. What sets it apart is the corner of house-made food like laksa, daging masak lada (peppery beef) and gulai, so not everything has to be cooked yourself at the table. You can also mix your own dipping sauces to taste.

We started with the spiced grilled lamb. The spice aroma is strong and the flavour is intense, while the meat stays juicy. The marinated chicken is tender, and the dory fish, grilled until crispy, is best dipped in black pepper sauce or cili bawang (chilli onion sauce). For the steamboat, we chose the spicy and sour tomyam broth.

A steamboat meal isn't complete without dessert. Here there's ABC (shaved ice) you can make yourself, ice cream and iced tea.

During our visit in September 2025, the price was RM38 for adults, and children under five eat free. For those celebrating a birthday, there's a 30 percent discount that can be claimed three days before or after your birth date, provided at least three people come. For comparison, the buffet price here was recorded at around RM35 per person a few years ago, so the increase is still reasonable for this much choice.
