Rico's Pizza Cafe, Merbau Sempak: Wagyu Tomahawk in the Kampung
A hidden pizza café in Kampung Merbau Sempak, Sungai Buloh that also serves wood-fire-cooked wagyu tomahawk, king crab and 12-hour smoked brisket.
Say tomahawk and many people picture prices running into the thousands at fancy restaurants. At Rico's Pizza Cafe, this dish is served in a humble shop on Jalan Besar, Kampung Merbau Sempak, Sungai Buloh, at a far more wallet-friendly price. According to the shop, the wagyu tomahawk can be had for as low as around RM300.
The shop's name starts with pizza, and its pizza menu is still the backbone, from 7 to 12 inches. But these days Rico's is better known for its premium meat. The shop uses Black Angus beef and MB7-grade wagyu from Australia. The wagyu tomahawk we tried was cooked over a wood fire; it's huge and the meat is so tender it melts in your mouth. It's usually served with fries, salad and sauce.
New items include the brisket and short rib platter, slow-smoked for 12 hours, tender and juicy. Seafood fans can order king crab in several sizes. The single leg we shared was enough for one or two, the meat fresh with a distinct briny sea flavour. In our video caption, the tomahawk was listed at RM557 and the king crab at RM167.
There are also talam sets, fried rice, spaghetti and other Western dishes. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, with big tables for group meals. The parking area is spacious too, a plus for a shop in a kampung area.

- Book a table via WhatsApp, especially for big groups on weekend nights.
