Restoran Al-Fyhaa, Bahau: Arab Cooking by a Chef from Syria

Bahau isn't the first place that comes to mind when talking about Arab food, but Restoran Al-Fyhaa on Jalan Mahogani 1, Pusat Perniagaan Mahogani, changes that perception. The owner and cook are from Syria, and the name Al-Fayhaa itself is an old nickname for the city of Damascus.
The main dish is nasi Arab in several styles such as mandy, kabsa and biryani, with a choice of chicken or lamb. Regulars we met praised the tender lamb and gave full marks to the flavour of the rice. There's also shawarma, kebabs, the Al-Fyhaa mix grill, salads and stews. The spices are adjusted slightly to local tastes, including Negeri Sembilan folk who love it spicy.
Their Arab pizza is also popular; one customer told us the dough is soft, and it's big enough to share among a few people. There's also soup served in a hot stone bowl, perfect for dinner.
For dessert, try the kunafa, made the Arab way, and the homemade Dubai chocolate, one of their newest items. Arabic coffee can also be ordered, and there are plenty of cold drinks to refresh you after a spiced meal.
The dining area is spacious with ample parking. For functions, the restaurant can set up a tent fitting up to 500 people and provide catering to suit your budget, whether for a family kenduri or an office event.

- The nasi Arab portions are big; one serving can be shared by two.
- Come earlier for dinner, especially on weekends.
- The dining area isn't air-conditioned, so night time is more comfortable.
