Putri Kim Korean Restaurant, Taman Sri Gombak: Authentic Sundubu Jjigae

A Korean restaurant upstairs in a Taman Sri Gombak shoplot, known for its sundubu jjigae, plus bibimbap, ramen, tteokbokki and soy garlic fried chicken.

Korean food fans in Gombak, many say the sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew) at Putri Kim Korean Restaurant is among the best around. The restaurant sits upstairs in a row of shops in Taman Sri Gombak. It may look simple, but the food tastes genuinely authentic.

Our must-order was, of course, the sundubu jjigae. It has everything, the tang of kimchi, the sweetness of the meat and soft, rich tofu, and we wanted seconds. There is also chicken and beef bibimbap. The beef bibimbap we tried was well balanced, with a gently spicy gochujang sauce and the fragrant aroma of sesame oil. Ramen is on the menu too.

Still hungry? Add sides like tteokbokki, soy garlic fried chicken and sweet chili chicken wings. Not great with spice? There is dalgona coffee, strawberry matcha latte and iced lemon tea. When we filmed, the restaurant opened daily from 10am to 9.30pm, closing on the second and third Monday of each month.

Tips

  • The restaurant is upstairs, so look for the staircase in the Jalan SG 1/6 shoplot row.
  • Check the calendar before a Monday visit, as it closes on the second and third Monday.
  • Order a sundubu jjigae and a bibimbap to share so you can try both.
  • Ask for less spice if you cannot handle the heat.
