Plate 12, Ampang: Western Food on 12-Inch Plates
A Western restaurant in Taman Seri Ukay, Ampang that serves everything on 12-inch plates, from mee kari with a flood of prawns to a giant cheeseburger.
The name says it all about the concept. At Plate 12, Taman Seri Ukay, Ampang, every plate and bowl is 12 inches across, and the food is piled to fill the plate. The restaurant is themed around Western food in big portions, and according to the shop, the goal is to keep customers full until tomorrow.
The first dish to arrive already surprised us. The big mee kari nyonya udang banjir (nyonya curry noodles flooded with prawns) is served in a big bowl with plenty of prawns, soft noodles and a thick curry broth. It's clearly not a Western dish, but it's one of the standouts here.
The seafood aglio olio spaghetti with lamb combines tender, smoky lamb with seafood and black pepper sauce, and the spaghetti is cooked with a slight spicy kick. The giant homemade cheeseburger comes with fries, nachos and black pepper sauce; the patty is house-made, tender and juicy.
We also tried the creamy meatball, meatballs in a cream sauce dipped in strawberry jam, a sweet-and-salty combo reminiscent of Swedish-style dishes. For something lighter, the white mushroom soup is served with toast.
Drinks here come in tall glasses, including a strawberry lychee shake, honey lemon and sodas. Besides the dishes we tried, Plate 12 also offers chicken chop, lamb chop and big platters that can be shared by two to three people. Other reviewers suggest booking a table at peak times and on weekends.

- Portions are very big, so order one dish for two if you're an average eater.
- Book a table or come early on weekend nights, as the restaurant fills up easily.
