Ocean Thirteen, Seksyen 13: Irish-Style Fish & Chips in Shah Alam

In the row of shops on Jalan Rugbi, Seksyen 13, not far from the former Stadium Shah Alam site, Ocean Thirteen serves fish and seafood in a fast-food format. The shop is themed after an Irish fish and chips shop, with a classic, cosy vibe that's comfortable for family meals.

The concept was brought back from Ireland. According to several customer reviews, the recipes come from a chef who worked for about 18 years in Dublin before returning to Malaysia. Although it has only been running for about a year, the shop has already become a regular stop for fish and chips fans in Shah Alam.

What sets it apart is the choice of fish. Besides sea perch, there's Alaskan pollock, halibut, salmon and sea bass to choose from to suit your taste. We started with the sea perch fish and chips: the batter is crispy, the flesh is tender and not fishy, and it goes best dipped in tartar sauce. The fish burger uses a big, thick fish fillet, and it's very filling.

For sharing, the Fisherman Seafood Bucket brings together fish, prawns and squid in one bucket. If you want something lighter, the shrimp caesar salad combines prawns with crunchy greens and a creamy dressing. Other items include Atlantic seafood chowder, Sailorman fish and rice, mac and cheese and garlic butter rice.

Fish and chips reportedly start from around RM25.90. The shop is open Tuesday to Thursday from noon to 10pm, Friday from 3pm to 11pm, and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 11pm. It's closed every Monday.
