Memang Meow Kopitiam, Lalaport BBCC: Set Meals From RM13.90

Memang Meow is a kopitiam chain that presents itself as a champion of Malaysian local food, with branches including Sunway Putra Mall, Genting Permai and Melaka. Now the brand is also at Mitsui Shopping Park Lalaport, Bukit Bintang City Centre, at lot LG1-04. Getting there is easy: head down to level LG1 and walk towards Jaya Grocer and Health Lane; the shop is nearby.

Lunch and dinner are the best times to come, as there are set meals from RM13.90, drink included. For a mall in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, that price is a real help.

The first dish we tried was their best-known one, the nasi lemak ayam goreng berempah (with spiced fried chicken). The chicken is crispy outside and still juicy inside, perfect with nasi lemak and sambal. Second, the creamy butter chicken rice: tender chicken pieces in a creamy butter sauce, served with rice and egg.

For those who want something other than rice, there's dry pan mee with springy noodles and nicely balanced soy sauce, served with a bowl of hot soup. Don't miss the crispy roti bakar coklat keju (chocolate cheese toast) with its sweet, rich filling, and the karipap ayam dengan telur (chicken and egg curry puff) filled with spiced chicken. One is definitely not enough.

The drinks stay true to kopitiam style: strong traditional iced kopi and rich, creamy iced teh tarik. The shop is open daily from 10am to 10pm, so it also works as a rest stop between shopping sessions.
