The name Main Api ("playing with fire") really fits what's on the plate. This restaurant on Jalan PJU 5/9, Kota Damansara is all about grilled food, and every customer gets to decide their own spice level and type of sauce. Their slogan, Where Fire Meets Flavour, gives you an early taste of what's in store.
The two things that caught our attention most were the fries and chips with unlimited refills, and the sauce lab corner stocked with all kinds of sauces and flavours. Here you're free to mix and try your own combinations, which makes the meal more relaxed and a little experimental.
The mains we tasted started with the half chicken. The portion is big and the flavour is sweet and spicy, filling enough for one. For those who don't want to bother with bones, the chicken chop is an easier choice. Seafood fans can go for the grilled siakap (sea bass); the flesh is fresh and comes off easily.
For something you can eat with your hands, the Api Chicken Fried Pocket is crispy outside, with a spicy, smoky filling. The Api Chicken Fried Burger combines cheese with the same smoky flavour. If you're coming in a big group, order the whole chicken set, which comes with four side dish options to share.
There's plenty of drinks to choose from too, handy when your chosen spice level turns out a bit too brave. Main Api is open daily from 11am to 10pm, so it works for lunch with colleagues or dinner with the family.
