Kafe Kleptokrat, KL: A Vintage Café with a Pool in the City

A vintage café on Jalan Tun H S Lee with a swimming pool in its courtyard, serving Malay food and offering a one-of-a-kind iftar spot during Ramadan 2026.

Kafe Kleptokrat on Jalan Tun H S Lee in KL's City Centre is a two-storey café in a renovated old shophouse. Tiled floors, weathered red brick and leafy plants set a vintage mood, while the star attraction is the swimming pool running along the courtyard. It is a very Instagrammable spot for outfit shots.

During Ramadan 2026, which has since ended, Kleptokrat offered iftar by the pool with a Malay Ramadan set: basmati rice, masak lemak cili api (fiery coconut curry), asam pedas siakap fillet (tangy, spicy sea bass), spiced fried chicken, fresh ulam (raw herbs) and sambal belacan, plus free bubur lambuk (spiced rice porridge), rose syrup and teh tarik. The asam pedas was sweet-sour and not too heavy.

Other dishes we tried included mackerel fillet, prawn fritters, nasi lemak rendang with banana blossom for rendang lovers, and fried banana with ice cream for dessert. You can book or simply walk in. Opening hours have changed with the seasons, so check their official social media before you go.

Tips

  • Bring a change of clothes and a towel if you plan to swim.
  • Book ahead for large groups, especially at weekends.
  • Arrive before dusk for natural light by the pool.
  • The City Centre is congested; consider taking the LRT or MRT to a nearby station such as Pasar Seni.
