Jom Claypot, Bukit Jelutong: Halal Claypot Rice & Pan Mee, Noodle Refills

Looking for Chinese food that suits your palate and is Muslim-friendly in Shah Alam? We stopped by Jom Claypot, a shop in the Trivo Suria Jelutong row, Bukit Jelutong. The space is pretty and clean, and there's extra dining space upstairs for those coming in groups.

According to its founders, Jom Claypot was opened because they themselves struggled to find halal claypot rice that truly captured the original aroma and texture. The Muslim-owned brand states that all ingredients are sourced from halal-compliant suppliers and that they're in the process of applying for official halal certification.

The best-seller is the claypot chicken rice. The rice arrives steaming hot with tender chicken and Chinese sausage, and there are also versions with ginger, sausage and mushroom, and mozzarella cheese. For us, the star is the dry chili pan mee: handmade noodles tossed in their special chili oil with a half-boiled egg. For selected pan mee, you can refill your noodles without limit as long as you're dining in.

The noodle menu also covers wantan pan mee, Hakka pan mee, Penang Hokkien prawn mee, Penang curry mee and claypot laksa pendek. On the side, try the Penang chicken roll and muah chee (Penang mochi), then cool down with an aiyu jelly ice.
