UPM Serdang Food Hunt: Students' Top Campus Eats
We asked UPM students from various faculties for the best food on campus, from RM7 nasi ayam penyet to a mi goreng tomyam that earned our 10 out of 10.
Part 7 of our University Food Hunt series takes us to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Serdang. As usual, we ambushed students for their on-campus picks. An Instrumentation Physics student pointed us to nasi ayam penyet (smashed fried chicken rice) at a stall beside Kolej Tun Dr Ismail (KTDI). At RM7, the sambal has a good kick and the chicken is crisp and juicy. We gave it 9/10. Next door, Zina Burger does a good-value RM6 cheese burger, 8/10.
Computer Science students recommended the mi goreng tomyam (tom yum fried noodles) at Umai Cafe. The cafe is spacious with a big menu. We expected something ordinary, but the strong tom yum hit made it delicious. We gave it 10/10, the best of this episode.
Biotechnology students sent us to Shawarma Pak Arab at Serumpun Food Court, near Kolej 12 and Kolej 14. The RM6.50 regular shawarma is generously filled but the sauce is a bit sour, so 6/10. Finally, Business and Economics students took us to their faculty canteen for beef pulled noodles. The taste was ordinary but the portion large. The same canteen has a shop selling carbonara popiah and fried ice cream.
