Elmina KK Seafood, Shah Alam: Pick Your Own from the Tanks, Geoduck Included

For seafood lovers who want to try something out of the ordinary, Elmina KK Seafood Restaurant on Persiaran Garcinia, Shah Alam is worth noting down. The restaurant is in the Elmina Farm area, opposite Elmina Lakeside Mall, and serves Chinese Muslim-style seafood. It's run by the same group as Keong Kee Seafood, a live seafood wholesaler in the Klang Valley.

The concept is simple: pick your own seafood from the tanks, and the kitchen will cook it. There are more than 20 types of seafood, from fish and clams to lobster and geoduck. The dining area is spacious and comfortable for families.

Geoduck is a giant long-necked clam that's rarely found at other restaurants. The flesh is white and tender, and can be eaten as it is or dipped into herbal soup for about 10 seconds. The herbal soup itself is also lovely to sip.

The restaurant uses large Australian lobsters, which we tried in a creamy butter sauce. It's rich and slightly sweet, and you can ask for a spicier version. We also tried the Chinese-style steamed fish; during our visit, there was a promotion on 500g fish for under RM100.

Other dishes include grilled squid, chicken wings and a variety of vegetables. The restaurant is open daily in two sessions: Monday to Friday 11.30am to 2.30pm and 6pm to 10.30pm, and Saturday and Sunday 11am to 2.30pm and 5.30pm to 10.30pm.
