Edar Cafe, TSB Sungai Buloh: Butter Chicken Rice & Wednesday's Special Fish

For those who love café-hunting around Sungai Buloh, Edar Cafe in Pusat Komersil TSB (Seksyen U20, Shah Alam) deserves a spot on your list. Owned by a Malay entrepreneur, this café has a neat, calm space that's great for getting work done, meetings or meals with the family. There's also a private room for groups who want some privacy.

The menu combines local and Western dishes. According to customer reviews, the kitchen is led by a chef with more than 30 years of experience in five-star hotels, and you can tell from the finish on every plate we tried.

The best-seller here is the butter chicken rice. The sauce is thick and rich, with a touch of spice and the sweetness of onions, very different from the usual buttermilk version. We also tried the smoked duck aglio olio; the smoked duck is full of flavour, and customers can ask to swap it for chicken or another type of pasta. For something more indulgent, the beef salai (smoked beef) is cooked medium, tender and juicy.

If you happen to come on a Wednesday, try the pan-fried fish, a tilapia fillet with creamy basil sauce that's only served on that day each week.

For drinks, we chose a refreshing lychee lime soda, a tropical-tasting pineapple coconut, and a hot latte. To finish, the pandan gula Melaka cake and the tiramisu are both moist with moderate sweetness. Edar Cafe is closed on Mondays, so plan your visit from Tuesday to Sunday.
