Docduck Bakehouse, Meru: Peach Strudel, Kunafa Puff & Laksa

Docduck, already well known around Kuala Lumpur, has now opened a branch on Jalan Meru, Klang. Besides desserts, this branch also serves proper meals, so it's good for lunch, not just a tea-time stop. Its location in Taman Meru Jaya is also easy to find from the main road.

The space is roomy. There's seating on the ground floor, upstairs and outside, so it's easy to come as a group with family or friends. The pastry counter offers lots of choices, and it took us a while to decide.

We started with the peach strudel: the peach on top is soft and moderately sweet, and the pastry is very flaky. Then came a big pastry filled with pistachio kunafa, followed by a blueberry puff whose filling bursts in your mouth. The cake we tried was soft and fluffy.

For mains, the creamy tomyam pasta combines tomyam flavours with a creamy sauce. The nasi lemak here comes with big chicken tenders, while the laksa comes with a thick, rich broth and a filling portion.

For drinks, there's a strong signature coffee, a balanced latte that isn't too sweet, and a watermelon soda that's refreshing in Klang's hot weather. There are plenty more desserts and dishes we didn't get to try, so there's a reason to come back.
