Bahulu Masri, Sekinchan: Making Bahulu Since 1992

A Sekinchan bahulu maker founded in 1992, now with around 40 staff and best known for its rolled bahulu filled with pineapple jam, a bestseller especially in the run-up to Hari Raya.

Looking for bahulu (small Malay sponge cakes) in Sekinchan? Bahulu Masri is the name locals mention. According to Nabila Sanudin, the company's assistant marketing officer, Bahulu Masri was founded on 6 July 1992 and now employs around 40 people. The idea came about because no shop in Sekinchan was making bahulu at the time.

The bestseller is the bahulu gulung, a rolled bahulu filled with pineapple jam. Besides bahulu, the shop sells a range of other products including festive biscuits, drawing customers from outside the area. Ramadan, especially weekends, is the busiest time as people stock up for Raya. The Ramadan and Raya 2026 rush is over, but bahulu is sold all year round.

In the video we show how it is made. Early in the morning, staff crack eggs and weigh the flour and sugar before mixing. The oven is preheated, the batter goes into moulds and bakes for about 20 minutes. The company has also started working with TikTok creators to promote its products.

The Masri premises are at Parit 7, Sungai Leman, Sekinchan, an easy stop if you are visiting the paddy fields here.
