Ayam Gepuk Hut, Coalfields Retail Park: Crispy Smashed Chicken at Sungai Buloh's New Mall
The Ayam Gepuk Hut branch at the newly opened Coalfields Retail Park serves crispy smashed chicken with sambal at your chosen heat level, chicken and beef combos, salted egg squid rice and bakso.
Good news for those living around Coalfields. Ayam Gepuk Hut, the Indonesian-style smashed chicken chain also found at Mid Valley, KLCC and IOI City Mall, has opened at Coalfields Retail Park in Bandar Seri Coalfields. The 21-acre open-air retail park opened in September 2026, and Ayam Gepuk Hut is at lot UG-35.
The must-order is the nasi ayam gepuk (smashed fried chicken with rice). We went for medium sambal; the chicken is crispy outside yet still tender inside, and the heat is manageable. With hot rice and sambal, it just works. It costs RM16.90.
Can't decide between chicken and beef? Get Combo B at RM22.90, which puts smashed chicken and smashed beef in one set. We also tried the salted egg squid rice with hot sambal; the rich and spicy combination is a little different from the usual, great if you like creamy with your heat.
For something lighter there is Indomie with fried egg, while soup lovers can order mi bakso (meatball noodle soup). Drinks we tried were ais cendol and Bali Blue. The shop is comfortable and relaxed, good for a meal with friends or family.
Tips
- Choose medium sambal if you are not great with spice; hot really bites.
- Combo B is the best value if you want both chicken and beef.
- Coalfields Retail Park is still new, so weekends can be busy. Come early for parking.
- Pair your meal with other attractions at the mall, such as the ice skating rink.
