7 Places to Visit in Shah Alam You Might Not Know About
A newly upgraded museum, a water park, snow at i-City, an RM3 botanical garden, a mini garden farm in Jalan Kebun and murals in Seksyen 7. A holiday doesn't have to mean going far.

Who says a holiday has to be far away? Selangor's state capital has plenty of places that suit families, friends or couples. Here are seven we explored over a series of visits.
Muzium Sultan Alam Shah on Persiaran Bandaraya reopened in February 2025 after RM5.23 million worth of upgrading works. Its exhibition space is now divided into galleries on history, customs and culture, and nature, with more than 1,000 exhibits. When we came, visitors could try activities like tekat (gold thread embroidery), sulaman (embroidery) and wau (kite) making. Nearby, Wet World Shah Alam suits the whole family with slides and a lazy river, and if your timing is right, there's a foam party session the kids love.
At i-City, SnoWalk offers a snowy setting with bumper cars, snowball fights and slides. Tickets are around RM65 for adults and RM55 for children, and it's open from afternoon until night. For speed lovers, try the go-kart track here, which has single and double seats. The track isn't long, but it's satisfying enough.
For some greenery, Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam (National Botanical Garden) at Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam charges just RM3 for entry. The grounds are huge, so choose whether to take the shuttle bus, walk or cycle. There's a herb and spice garden, rice paddies, traditional houses of various communities that have been used as film locations, and Hussein Fauzi Farm, where we saw capybaras, tried planting rice and catching fish. To unwind, take the Antan Batura leisure boat around Tasik Shah Alam, most pleasant in the late afternoon.
In Jalan Kebun, Taman Anjung Api-Api is a mini agro garden with catfish farmed in tanks, herb plants, fig trees and cempedak. Finally, Laman Seni 7 in the Seksyen 7 commercial centre, open since 2014, is covered in murals from street art competitions organised by Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam. It's great for strolling and taking photos.
