7 Legendary Places to Eat in Klang That Have Lasted for Decades
Lontong since 1970, a Hainanese kopitiam since 1940, the ais kacang schoolkids used to love and pandan layer cake since 1977. This is Klang in seven stops.

Klang is an old royal town, and its long history can be felt in the eateries still running after decades. We've gathered seven places that deserve to be called legendary, enough to fill a whole day of eating from morning to evening.
A morning in Klang is best started with Lontong Klang. It began as one of the stalls at Emporium Makan around 1970, and is now a favourite with locals and visitors who want to taste authentic lontong (rice cakes in coconut vegetable gravy), besides lontong ayam, nasi lemak and roti canai. The second pick is Chong Kok Kopitiam on Jalan Stesen, near Klang KTM station. Opened in 1940 by Hainanese cook Foo Wah Leng, the building was originally a hotel and restaurant before becoming a full-time kopitiam in the 1970s. Charcoal-toasted bread with house-made kaya, half-boiled eggs and Hainanese coffee are still the top picks, and its customers come from all races.
For lunch, Restoran MST Malindo serves Indonesian and Malay food. Nasi ayam penyet and bakso (meatball soup) are among the best-sellers, at reasonable prices. In the afternoon, stop by Warung Wak Stu, which sells all kinds of kuih and kampung-style dishes. When we came, the warung was open on weekdays and closed on weekends.
When you get thirsty, Ais Kacang Ah Seng has long been a hangout for old-timers and schoolkids of yesteryear. The shop has now moved to the top floor of Mydin Klang, and besides ais kacang there are other desserts too. For something to take home, Dodol Warisan in Kampung Sungai Pinang has been running for about 60 years, and visitors can watch how the dodol is stirred before buying.
Finally, Regent Pandan Layer Cake on Jalan Raya Timur has been open since 1977 and its décor has barely changed. Its layer cake combines layers of sponge cake and layers of custard, in pandan, corn, yam and mixed flavours, plus durian in season. The cakes sell out fast, especially on weekends.
