10 Places to Visit in Shah Alam: No Need to Go Far
From a zipline across the lake and a go-kart track to the Blue Mosque and Southeast Asia's tallest flagpole, Shah Alam has options for every kind of weekend.

A getaway doesn't have to mean driving for hours. Shah Alam, the Selangor state capital opened in 1978 and known as the City of Orchids, has plenty of places to explore in a day or two. Here are the ten we checked out.
1. Zipline Adventure Shah Alam on Persiaran Tasik, Seksyen 14, sends you gliding across Tasik Shah Alam for about 240 metres, with the option to rent a drone for aerial footage. 2. K1 Karting in Setia Alam offers a track of around 650 metres at a reasonable price for racing with friends. 3. Tropicana Sports Center in Seksyen U20 brings together pickleball, badminton and the MyKart Raceway go-kart track on the fifth floor, all in one building.
4. Dayakboi Playground in Kampung Lombong offers outdoor archery, either regular archery or horseback archery. 5. Bazar Stadium Shah Alam in Seksyen 13 has long been where Shah Alam folk shop on weekends, from farmers' market produce to clothes and antiques. The original stadium was demolished in 2025 for redevelopment, so check the bazaar's latest location before coming.
6. AI World Experience Centre at i-City introduces a range of AI robots that can interact with visitors, great as an educational outing for the kids. 7. Taman Anggerik (the Orchid Garden), next to Taman Tasik Shah Alam in Seksyen 14, reflects the city's identity and is perfect for unwinding.
8. Tiang Bendera Selangor at Kelab Shah Alam, Seksyen 13, stands 120 metres tall and is recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the tallest flagpole in Southeast Asia. 9. Kebun Komuniti Palatium Bukit Bandaraya in Seksyen U11 lets kids learn hands-on gardening and take home their plants.
10. Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, or the Blue Mosque, was completed in 1988 and can hold 24,000 worshippers. Its blue dome is 51.2 metres in diameter, while its four minarets reach 142.3 metres. Next to it is the 14-hectare Taman Seni Islam (Islamic Arts Garden).
